Agriculture
Primary objective is to make it possible for the farmers to stay in one area on a long-term basis without causing ecological damage. Building roads into the jungle can cause damage, as farmers are enabled to burn down more forest. To control this, O.S.C.A.R. started a ecological program to prevent massive deforestation. This program protects steep slopes and helps reforestation. In a three-year course, the local farmers are trained to agriculture specialists. The farmers attend three days per month to a course that takes place in the project camp. The course teaches how to pursue agriculture without slash-and-burn land clearance and how to protect the ground by mixed cultivation, in order to be able to use the same field for a longer time.
284 agriculture specialist have been trained so far and after their training, they pass their knowledge on to their localities.
