Road construction
Roads connect the farmers with the local trade. Locals that live in the middle of nowhere are not connected to any health care system. Therefore, obviously, infrastructure is a priority in order to allow sustainable development.
Most of the work is improvement of existing paths. Prior to working on a road, the local farmers are bound by contract to take care of the maintenance work of the road after the construction has finished.
Many roads lead through small streams that develop into powerful rivers during the rainy season, making these roads impassable. Therefore, the construction of bridges at these sites is therefore a invaluable help for this region. The constructional work is managed by specialized workers that are employed by O.S.C.A.R. and students and the farmer work together under their guidance.
Since 1984 the project has successfully
- improved 382 km of roads
- built 74 bridges
- built 8 suspension bridges for pedestrians
